On day two, conquer Mt. Maxwell and its magnificent Douglas Fir Trees, with an optional trek to Mt. Erskine for more stunning island vistas. After your hikes, unwind at Moby’s Pub in Ganges. Day three offers a change of scenery with a hike on the Channel Ridge South Trail, featuring views of St. Mary Lake and the ocean. Finish your adventure with a refreshing swim at Vesuvius Beach and a delightful meal before returning to Victoria. This tour is the perfect blend of outdoor adventure and island relaxation, providing unforgettable experiences and spectacular natural beauty.
Your tour will meet in Sidney, BC, a short drive from Victoria Airport and right by the ferry terminal. After grabbing a sandwich or a power bar at Rocksalt Cafe, you’ll head off to Ruckle Park, one of our favourite spots on the island. There’s a network of several kilometres of trails to enjoy, all with great ocean views. After the hike, make your way to Ganges for the evening. The Salt Spring Inn will be your home base for the weekend. Grab a pint at the ;ocal Pub and get a good night’s sleep for tomorrow’s adventure.
Today you’ll head to the top of the island! Mt Maxwell is Salt Spring’s summit, and there are several 2-3 mile trails taking you to the top of the island. You can spend the day exploring the park, walking among the massive Douglas Fir Trees, and soaking up expansive ocean views. Pack a bagged lunch for the hike!If you're looking for an add-on to Mt Maxwell, head over to Mt Erskine. It's another popular trail taking you up to the top of the island. After a day in Maxwell Park, it’s time to head back to Ganges for après activities. Our favourite on Salt Spring after a tough hike is Moby’s Pub. Enjoy a few cold ones on their patio before walking back to your hotel.
Mount Maxwell Provincial Park
After a couple days of oceanside hikes, it’s time to mix it up a bit and explore a lake! The Channel Ridge South Trail offers views of St Mary Lake to the east, and glimpses of the ocean back to the west. It’s a shorter hike today, as you’re bound to be a bit sore after scrambling around Mt Maxwell! Once you’ve wrapped up your hike, head on over to Vesuvius Beach. You can cool off with an afternoon dip and enjoy a bite at the local cafe before hopping on a ferry back to Victoria.
